5 Facts About Syd Barrett Of Pink Floyd [VIDEO]

Today Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd would have celebrated his 66th birthday.

In celebration of of Syd Barrett’s birthday today here are some facts that you might not know.

Syd Barrett’s father died when he was 11 which is believed to be partly responsible for Syd’s mental problem into his adult life.

Syd Barrett co-founded what would become Pink Floyd in the mid 60’s during that time the band would take on many line-up and name changes such as “The Abdabs”, “The Screaming Abdabs”, “Sigma 6″ and “The Meggadeaths.” It was in 1965 that Barrett would join the band as “The Tea Cups” but would change the name to “The Pink Floyd Sound” and finally named Pink Floyd named after Pink Anderson and Floyd Council whom he had read about in a sleeve note by Paul Oliver for a 1962 Blind Boy Fuller LP

Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd in 1968, just three years after co-founding it and would embark on a solo career as a musician.

Pink Floyd’s 1975 album Wish You Were Here was written and released as a tribute to Barrett.

Syd Barrett’s first solo album entitled “The Madcap Laughs” was produced by Roger Waters and David Gilmour. The album shows the mental instability that Syd Barrett was dealing with in his life at that time.

Syd Barrett would totally leave music in 1974 and would live the rest of his life in seclusion in Cambridge until his death in 2006 with pancreatic cancer.
