A Man Anonymously Confesses to Murder on an Online Bulletin Board and the Other Users Track Him Down and Forward His Info to the FBI
No matter how anonymous you THINK you are online, there's ALWAYS someone out there who's better than you with computers. And if they want to make you un-anonymous...they will.
On Saturday night, there was a discussion thread on the website Reddit.com called, quote, "Finally have the guts to say it." And, as people on Reddit do, the people were posting their confessions by adding text to photos of cute animals.
One guy took a picture of a sad bear (it's a meme nicknamed the "Confession Bear") and wrote his confession: "My sister had an abusive meth addict boyfriend. I killed him with his own drugs while he was unconscious and they ruled it an overdose."
And his fellow Reddit users IMMEDIATELY turned on him. They used his previous posts to find everything from his name, to his location, to his Facebook page. And someone on Reddit forwarded that info to the FBI.
The guy posted that he was joking around, but no one bought it. Then he admitted that there was SOME truth behind it and deleted his account.
There's no word on whether the FBI found the guy, but if he's arrested, this may be the first murderer taken down by the Confession Bear.
Here's the Confession Bear graphic the guy posted:
