A teenager accidentally shot another teen Sunday night (April 24) while they were playing with a handgun.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, the accidental shooting happened at a residence on 46th Street. Officers responded to a shots fired call and found a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his neck.

Three other teenagers in the room when the incident happened told police that they were playing with a handgun when one of the teens pulled the trigger.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim or the teenagers involved.

The teen who was shot in the neck was brought to UMC with a life-threatening injury. Lubbock police detectives are investigating the incident.
