Have you ever had a purple potato? Well, we hadn't either until we talked with Brenda Duby with United Supermarkets about the importance of incorporating black, blue and purple foods into your healthy eating plan.

The pigments in blue, purple and black foods are called anthocyanins, which help significantly to reduce the risk of both high blood pressure and low HDL cholesterol (the good kind).

And adults who eat these colors of foods are less likely to be overweight.

Blue corn, for instance, has 30 times the antioxidants of white corn, so opt for blue corn chips.

Purple potatoes have 166 times more bionutrients than white potatoes.

New studies show that 10 spoonfuls of cooked black rice have the same amount of antioxidants as a cup of blueberries.  ]And of course, blackberries, blueberries and eggplant are more great ways to Color Your Basket blue and purple for 2016.
