The Lubbock Music Festival is finally coming back to the Hub City. This is great news for music fans! Kool 98 has been proud to welcome great acts such as Chubby Checker, Three Dog Night, Chuck Berry, K.C. & the Sunshine Band among others over the years. We’re hoping for a legendary line-up this time around. Not that anyone listens to my idiotic opinions, but here are my Top 5 picks for shows that would kill at the 2012 Lubbock Music Festival!

  • Paul McCartney

This is a long shot, but there was talk several years ago that somebody might bring McCartney to the Hub City. I remember that he even showed some interest in the idea of playing Buddy Holly’s hometown. Heck, the Beatles named themselves after Buddy’s Crickets and Paul has talked MANY times about his affection for Holly’s music. Not only would McCartney be the single most incredible show to come through Lubbock in our history, but his participation would get to the core of what the Lubbock Music Festival (Buddy Holly Festival…shhhh) is all about…celebrating the life, music and legacy of Buddy Holly and the people he influenced.

  • Ringo Starr

He did a show a few year ago in Amarillo. What can’t we pay him to come 109 miles south…to a better and more deserving town? Of the two surviving Beatles, he would be the second choice. But, still, it’s RINGO…and he would cost FAR less than Paul.

  • Van Morrison

I don’t know anybody who doesn’t LOVE his music. His fans are everywhere and he plays Texas quite often. Why not little ‘ol Lubbock? Like most of these artists, if you pay him enough, he’ll play at your next barbeque. So, pay him what he asks and we can all sing along to ‘Brown-Eyed Girl’ or…my favorite…’Into the Mystic’!

  • Chicago

These guys have put on SEVERAL incredible shows with Kool 98 over the years. They’re always great and their music crosses all age groups.

  • Earth, Wind & Fire

I don’t remember Earth, Wind & Fire EVER doing a show in Lubbock…do you? I’ve never seen them (which is one reason I’d love for them to be chosen), but I hear their one of the best shows on the planet. They often tour WITH Chicago. Maybe a double-billing? Plus, unlike Jefferson in ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’, you won’t have to hit up Damone for your tickets! You’ll probably just have to call Select-A-Seat.
