Check Out an Old Video of Helen Keller Talking, and Explaining Her Greatest Regret in Life
An old black-and-white video of Helen Keller generated a ton of comments on Reddit over the weekend. Keller lived from 1880 to 1968 and was left blind AND deaf following a serious illness when she was 19 months old. (Possibly scarlet fever or meningitis. Read more here.)
The video shows her SPEAKING, which she somehow learned how to do, but she explains that her biggest regret was not being able to speak NORMALLY.
She says, quote, "Longingly, I feel how much more good I might have done if I had only acquired natural speech."
Despite her struggles, Keller spent many years giving speeches and lectures.
