There are a lot of things that get lost in a head coaching firing: Student-athlete turnover, staff turnover and more often get overshadowed by the news of the head coach. Especially when that head coach takes not one, but two high-profile jobs after getting fired.

One of those coaches that flew under the radar is Defensive Coordinator David Gibbs.

The embattled coordinator spent more time with Kingsbury than any other DC in his tenure as head coach in Lubbock. Gibbs improved a defensive unit that was starved for some continuity.

Gibbs was linked to the Houston Defensive Coordinator role, but ultimately decided to leave the state of Texas rather than return to where he was before Texas Tech. His new school is the University of Missouri, and he's taken on a yet-announced role -- likely as a defensive backs coach.

In an official release from Missouri, Head Coach Barry Odom commented on the hire.

"I'm excited to have David join our staff," said Odom. "He's got an extensive track record of success in his career, and I'm confident he'll be a great addition to our Athletic Department, football program and defensive room. His history of coaching and coordinating at a high level speaks for itself, and I know our staff will take advantage of his experience in all areas. He will be a great fit with our culture at Mizzou and our kids will enjoy working together and learning from him."

Coach Gibbs, who was always a man of the people in Lubbock, commented on Twitter about the move to Missouri:

Congratulations to Coach Gibbs on the new job. We wish nothing but the best to the Missouri Tigers and their 2019 season.
