“Daddy’s gotta go to work” was the moment of Furious 7, with Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs Hulking-out of his cast and picking up the biggest machine gun you’ve ever seen — matched only by the size of his insane biceps. Johnson has debuted our first look at his return in Fast 8, promising a very different side of Hobbs in the upcoming sequel.

Dwayne Johnson, the number one source for all Dwayne Johnson news, offered our first look at Hobbs in Fast 8, along with some interesting details about his return. Take a moment to really study this photo because at first glance you may not even notice that intense heavy metal goatee (at least I didn’t):

Johnson says if he was going to return to the Fast & Furious franchise, he “wanted to come in and disrupt the franchise in a cool way that got fans fired up and their blood pumping to see a new version of Hobbs and his ‘Daddy’s gotta go to work’ mentality.” I don’t know if a leather vest gets your blood pumping, but it definitely says “Daddy” — in a way.

Perhaps more intriguing is Johnson’s opening statement, about stripping a man of “all he has. All that’s important to him” and sending him back to his “dangerous and twisted roots.” Judging by the barbed wire on that fence in the photo, it looks like Hobbs might be going to prison. Daddy’s gotta go to work somewhere. Might as well be prison.

The Fast sequel also stars Charlize Theron as the film’s new villain, with Game of Thrones’ Kristofer Hivju as her henchman, and Jason Statham returning as Deckard Shaw. Fast 8 hits theaters on April 14, 2017.
