The Lubbock Police Department is investigating an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The LPD received a call at about 6:20 a.m. on Friday (March 2) regarding the accident and quickly responded. A 64-year-old male was found seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in the 6500 block of Interstate 27.

Officers discovered the older man in the southbound access road between Highway 84 and 66th Street. That road was closed by accident investigators from 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. to map out the scene.

So far, authorities believe the elderly man was walking eastbound into the roadway when he was struck by a car. The person who struck him stayed on scene until police arrived to help. The 64-year-old was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.
