Overview

The last time Kansas State was in Lubbock, De'Andre Washington had a monster day as Texas Tech won 59-44 to become bowl eligible in 2015. Washington ran for 248 yards on just 27 carries and scored three times as he cemented himself as an NFL-caliber talent while having a career day.

Texas Tech can't become bowl eligible this weekend, but they do need a win badly to stop the bleeding after starting 1-4 in Big 12 play, with the lone win over Kansas. Texas Tech is now in a freefall, but only sitting at .500 after going undefeated through the non-conference schedule.

The losses aren't surprising; they're all against good teams. But that doesn't mean they sting any less. The West Virginia game in particular was one that Texas Tech seemingly had in the bag before giving up 29 unanswered points.

To win against Kansas State, the Red Raiders will continue working the running game. Kliff Kingsbury has showed an interest all season trying to get the running game going, and I see no reason to stop that now. The passing game will flow off a successful running attack if it's executed properly.

Tre King has emerged as a factor back that has potential to be a game changer. If he can put together a game like he had against Oklahoma with a burst like he showed against Houston, King can have a career day like Washington did at home against the Wildcats.

Kansas State is in the exact position as the Red Raiders, sitting at 4-4 through eight games. They have two conference wins (against Baylor and Kansas).

This game could be the opportunity for a bowl game for the winner and a depleted chance for the loser and that puts equal pressure on both sidelines.

The difference here is an inexperienced head coach vs an experienced head coach.

Kliff Kingsbury, in his 5th year as the Texas Tech head coach, was 10 years old when Bill Snyder took the job as head coach at Kansas State. Snyder has been in coaching since 1962.

Bill Snyder has coached in 314 games, opposed to Kingsbury's 58.

Maybe this weekend will be a torch passing moment where the Mr. Miyagi character shows Kliff-san how to be a winner. I guarantee you Bill Snyder can rub his hands together and heal anything he wants to. He coached right through a throat cancer scare.

The good news is the Red Raiders are more talented and the Texas Tech rushing defense will outweigh the difference that Bill Snyder provides, as the Texas Tech front 6/7 will be provide the necessary defense.

The Red Raiders are three-point favorites here in Lubbock against the Wildcats, and I think they cover against the old grizzled veteran Bill Snyder. The O/U is set at 63.5, and I'm legally obligated to take the over when talking about the Red Raiders, so let's say 35-31 with the Red Raiders moving to 5-4 with a chance to get bowl eligible next week against Baylor.
