The Lubbock business and banking communities received a shock on Sunday evening when the news came out about the passing of David Seim.

Seim was the chairman for Happy State Bank's Lubbock branch.

Seim was hired by Happy State Bank in February 2012 when they first opened a temporary branch in Lubbock at 8001 Quaker Avenue. He later oversaw Happy State Bank's move into a four-story building for their Lubbock branch headquarters at 4411 98th Street, and the opening of a second branch in Lubbock.

Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope commented on the passing of Seim on Facebook. "Denise and I grieve with Lubbockites and the Happy State Bank family at the passing of David Seim. David was a dear friend and mentor to me for the past 25 years."

Seim was also very active in the Lubbock community, personally, along with Happy State Bank.

During Seim's tenure, Happy State Bank was also a supporter of Texas Tech University and Texas Tech Athletics. In 2015, Happy State Bank donated $1,000,000 to the Fearless Champions initiative for athletics.

Happy State Bank now has over 35 locations in Texas, with most located in Lubbock, Amarillo and the Panhandle. The bank also has branches located in Abilene and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Funeral arrangements are pending for Seim. No cause of death has been announced.
