Plan ahead for a sober ride is the strong message sent by the Stephens family of Texas, who lost their daughter Jade. She was killed by a drunk driver.

A drunk driver ran a stop sign and t-boned their car. "No other family should experience a loss like ours due to drinking and driving," said Eric Stephens, Jade's father.

The story is being shared through the Texas Department of Transportation's 'Plan While You Can' campaign.

TxDOT Executive Director James Bass said they are saving lives by sharing compelling stories from families who have lost loved ones.

As always, TxDOT strongly encourages everyone to plan for a sober ride before going out. Visit SoberRides.org to find alternatives to drinking and driving, such as calling a taxi or using a transportation app on your smartphone.

In addition, you could use Spartan Public Transportation, Citibus, Yellow Cab and Checker Cab, or ask a sober friend or family member for a ride home.
