Never Buy Pancake Syrup Again With This One Simple Trick
Real pancake syrup comes from a tree. However, if you're on a budget and don't prefer the bottled, brewed, store-bought pancake syrup, I have a great idea for you: Make it yourself and keep it simple.
You never have to worry about running out of syrup again if you can keep two or three simple ingredients on hand.
- Sugar (brown and white, but you can use just one sugar if in a pinch)
- Maple flavoring extract
That's all you need to avoid the corn syrup and laundry list of preservatives you see on bottles of syrup.
This recipe from Taste of Home breaks down how to use those simple ingredients, plus water, to create your own maple syrup.
It's simply: Equal parts brown sugar, white sugar and water, and a splash of maple flavoring.
I generally scoop a half cup of white and a half cup of brown sugar into a small pan on medium-low, add a half cup of water and stir and simmer it together for a few minutes. Then, just add a half teaspoon of maple extract. That's it. Warm syrup -- yum!
Try it out yourself and let me know what you think in the comments.
