At around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday morning (June 21), Lubbock Fire Rescue received a 9-1-1 call from the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

A two-inch gas line was damaged by a crew digging in the area. LFR estimated 10 to 15 people were evacuated. There were no injuries or fatalities. Traffic was blocked along 19th Street at MLK.

Just before 11 a.m., LFR said the line would be repaired within two hours and the evacuation could end after that time.

"It was a City of Lubbock crew. Preliminary reports indicate that the gas lines were marked inaccurately," a spokesman for the city said.
