Have you driven down Quaker Avenue during holidays past and noticed the beautiful blue Christmas tree in the parking lot at 74th St. and Quaker Ave.?

That tree is the Hospice of Lubbock's blue tree and will be lit this year on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at their Light Up a Life ceremony at 6 p.m. at 7401 Quaker Avenue.

Light Up A Life represents a time to celebrate life as well as support the mission of Hospice. There will be music, lighting of the tree, a proclamation from the city and a reception. The tree will remain lit throughout December as a tribute to the patients and families served by Hospice of Lubbock

Hospice of Lubbock is a non profit organization serving 19 counties in West Texas, including Lubbock. Hospice of Lubbock is not a place, but a 'philosophy of care for the terminally ill, allowing clients to die in peace and comfort at home with their loved ones close by.'

They are also the only organization in West Texas offering pediatric and adult hospice care, serving clients from just a few hours old to their oldest current client, who is 104-years-old, according to Cheryl Presley, Volunteer Services coordinator.

Hospice of Lubbock is also offering the 2015 edition of their angel ornaments for $25. This year's collectible angel is holding a candle symbolizing the "light within the individuals served by the hospice staff."

Proceeds go toward providing direct patient care.  Angels from previous years can be purchased as well by calling the Hospice of Lubbock office at (806) 795-2751 or by visiting their office at 3702 21st St.
