Today is John Lennon's 73rd birthday and as far as I know, his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is perfectly clean.

But that wasn't the case over the weekend, when it was covered in graffiti.

It appeared that multiple people had scribbled various things in permanent marker, including peace signs, a spotted toadstool, a smiley-face, and a heart.

There were also some written messages...like the typical bathroom stall, "such-and-such was here"-type nonsense.

And under Lennon's name, it looks like someone tried to write some lyrics from the Grateful Dead song "Deal".

The organization responsible for the stars had the graffiti removed on Monday.  Workers stripped and resealed the star, and that took care of it.
