Earlier this month, Saltgrass employee Khalil Cavil claimed to have a received a racist note on a receipt from a customer. Cavil posted the receipt on social media, and it soon went viral.

Initially, Cavil claimed the customers denied him a tip and left the message 'We don't tip terrorists' on the receipt.

After further investigation, Saltgrass announced Monday (July 23) the note was not true and was fabricated.

KAMC News reports Cavil made up the entire story. Cavil admitted to writing the message on the receipt and apologized for his role in the story. He's since been fired by the restaurant.

Cavil says he is actively working to return all of the funds to those who donated to him following the initial story.

Saltgrass COO Terry Turney issued a new statement regarding the now-fake racist note:

After further investigation, we have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story. The customer has been contacted and invited back to our restaurant to dine on us. Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equaling disturbing.
