When a friend showed me this story, I have to admit I was a little infuriated.

According to Everything Lubbock, a kitten was put in a box with no food or water and left outside of the South Plains SPCA during closed hours. The volunteer that found the dead kitten had no idea how long it had been there.

I know the person that did this was probably trying to do the right thing, but seriously, the kitten would have had more of a chance to survive if just left alone to find shelter, food or water on its own.

I guess in this situation of choosing the lesser of two evils, this person felt that leaving a kitten in the hot sun with no food or water in a box was the best decision they could make.

Goodness prevails, though. Since this story has gone public, the community has stepped up and given donations to the SPCA to help with signs, lights, and cameras to help make it clear that animals cannot be left outside.

If you’d like to help out or volunteer, you can contact the volunteer-led SPCA on their Facebook page.
