Kliff Kingsbury Breaks Down 2018 National Signing Day for Texas Tech [Video]

Kliff Kingsbury spoke on National Signing Day and was eager to talk about his 17 recruits, including the 12-recruit class from early signing day and the five from the late signing period.

Kingsbury told media at Texas Tech that what jumped out about the two signed running backs was their overall production playing high school football.

"They both had over 3,000 yards in their careers. Both can catch the ball," he said. Kingsbury added that Tah'zawn Henry is a little bit smaller and quicker, but makes plays between the tackles. SaRodorick Thompson is 6'1" and has great hands out of the backfield, he said.

Kingsbury anticipated that both running backs will be in the mix to compete for playing time next season.

Next, the head coach moved on to the wide receivers, where he's fresh off losing four starters from the 2017 roster. Kingsbury talked about how, athletically, the five receivers could get on the field; it's just a matter of picking up the system. Sterling Galban and Myller Royals are both already on campus, while the other three will join the team in June.

Kingsbury is planning on getting two or three more guys to help -- either a grad transfer or a Junior College transfer. He said he liked the flexibility that having a few spots empty provides.

Kingsbury also touched on the depth that the recruiting class provided. "In the past, if you get a guy hurt you're out of luck, for a couple days... Having numbers will make for more competitive practices," he said.

The relatively small class that Texas Tech brought in is due to the number of players already on campus.

"Having 70 scholarships on campus is huge for us," he said. "We're excited about the depth that brings." The next class will be back up to 25, according to Kingsbury.
