By any measure, Texas Tech's 48-17 home loss to West Virginia was one of the team's worst performances in recent memory. But according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury, it was the worst he's ever seen from the team.

"It's the worst I've seen since I've been associated with Texas Tech. I've never seen a team play that poorly, coaches coach that poorly and just get embarrassed," Kingsbury said, adding: "I have to apologize to the fans, the student body and the alumni...that was as bad as it gets."

Texas Tech's loss against the still-undefeated West Virginia Mountaineers drops the Red Raiders to a 3-3 record for the season.

Despite admitting he saw no major problems with his team during training this past week, Kingsbury admitted that West Virginia was just better prepared.

"They wanted to play more than us, we weren't focused, weren't locked in, we did a poor job obviously preparing as coaches during the week and they took advantage of it," he said.

Kingsbury commended the West Virginia team, who certainly put on a college football clinic over the course of the game.

"They talked about it all week, what they would do, and they came in here and they did it," Kingsbury said. "We were definitely flat, we had no energy. They wanted it more. They were moving around out there faster, they were making more plays, they were blocking better, getting off blocks better, hitting harder...every phase of the game they dominated."

Kingsbury also took the blame for not instilling enough "mental toughness" in his team.

"If things get tough, we don't handle it well," he said.
