Kliff Kingsbury Issues Statement on ‘Completely Unacceptable’ Loss to Iowa State [Video]
Texas Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury issued a brief and unexpected statement before his regular Monday Q&A session at Jones AT&T Stadium to address the team's 66-10 loss to a 2-8 Iowa State.
Kingsbury doesn't typically issue statements in these press conferences. Normally, it's strictly a Q&A session with local media outlets. But the coach had something to say.
After telling reporters that the university and football program mean the world to him, Kingsbury said the performance was "completely unacceptable [in] every way, shape and form."
"I take sole responsibility. Didn't have our guys ready to go, didn't have them focused enough, didn't have enough energy, didn't have good enough game plans, obviously, and that's on me," said Kingsbury, adding that there was no silver lining at all to the team's loss to Iowa State Saturday in Ames.
"We knew what was on the line...and didn't answer the bell," he added.
Kingsbury ended his statement on a high note - or as high as can be expected for a team who just had the door slammed on their bowl game hopes.
"We can't let that game beat us twice," Kingsbury said. "Our sole focus now is moving forward and trying to send those seniors who've never beaten Baylor off with a win."
