Lamar Odom has reportedly checked himself into rehab, over a year after he suffered a near-fatal overdose that landed him in the hospital for several weeks.

"It was his own decision. He wanted to work on his mental and physical health for the next chapter of his life," a source reportedly told E! News. "He has not fallen off the wagon, but he understands the importance of maintaining his sobriety."

Another source tells PEOPLE Lamar’s decision to enter rehab is meant as an attempt to reportedly help prevent him from possibly relapsing.

“Lamar checked into rehab a week ago. He plans to stay for 30 days. It’s a substance abuse program, but he was not abusing drugs when he went in. He is clean. This is a precautionary measure,” the source claims.

“He wants to stay clear and focused. With the divorce from Khloe being finalized and the holidays coming up, he doesn’t want to slip up," they continued. "He’s trying to take care of himself. He really wants to be better. His friends and family encouraged him to go in and he agreed and made the decision.”

News of Lamar’s voluntary return to rehab comes just on the heels of his divorce from ex-wife Khloe Kardashian, which will be finalized this week. The couple married back in 2009, and Khloe initially filed for divorce four years later, in 2013. Both parties signed their paperwork in 2015, but put the divorce on hold after Lamar was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel in October 2015.

Khloe re-filed for divorce in May, and it'll be legally finalized on Saturday (December 17), according to PEOPLE.
