Lubbock has a major tie to recently-passed singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, and his name is Steve Meador.

Lubbock-based musician Steve Meador played drums for Cohen for most of the 90s. Meador got his start playing with Cohen back in 1979 for his record, Recent Songs.

According to credits at All Music, Meador also played on a mix of Cohen's studio and live albums, including: The Future (1992), Cohen Live (1994), More Best of Leonard Cohen (1997), Field Commander Cohen: Tour of 1979 (2000), Greatest Hits/Field Commander Cohen (2003), The Collection (2008) and The Complete Studio Albums Collection (2011).

Meador did not perform on Cohen's final album, You Want It Darker, which came out Oct. 21, 2016. The drummer has also played with Carole King and Joe Ely.
