The Lubbock City Council met Thursday evening in a regularly scheduled meeting.

The council voted to increase the speed limit on South Loop 289 from 60 mph to 65 mph. The increase to 65 mph on the South Loop will match the 65 mph speed limit in effect for the rest of Loop 289.

The council voted to extend the city's juvenile curfew ordinance for another three years. State law requires the ordinance be reviewed every three years.

The ordinance reads in part, "(It is) unlawful for any person sixteen (16) or less years of age to be or remain in or upon any public place or in or upon any establishment within the city between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. of the following day, official city time, except that on Fridays and Saturdays and nights next preceding school holidays (not including summer vacation) the hours shall be from 12:00 midnight to 6:00 a.m.

"(b) It shall be unlawful for any person aged six (6) to sixteen (16) years of age, inclusive, to be or remain in or upon any public place or in or upon any establishment within the city between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on a school day."

Finally, the city council approved a recommendation from the Lubbock Educational Facilities Authority to provide bond funding for Lubbock Christian University.

Some $19,775,000 in bonds will be issued for LCU for various building projects on campus, including building new student housing.

LCU President Tim Perrin thanked the city council for agreeing to work with LCU. The school will be responsible for paying back the debt to the Lubbock Educational Facilities Authority.
