Thursday morning, the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Mike Meeks to the position of Athletics Director.

Meeks was promoted into Lubbock ISD administration in July 2013 when he was named Assistant Athletics Director. Meeks' coaching experience includes a stint as head track and field coach at Coronado High School that ended in 2013, 11 seasons at Midland Lee High School coaching football and track, and stops at Fort Stockton and El Paso Socorro high schools.

Superintendent Berhl Robertson, Jr., said of Meeks, "Mike has a proven record of success and has done an outstanding job of running the Athletic Department since Mark Ball's retirement. No one works harder, has a bigger heart for what is in the best interest of student athletes or has a better attitude than Coach Meeks. We engaged in a search firm when this job opened up, but the right guy was already here. He is ready to build on the work done by Coach Ball and take our programs to the next level."

Meeks will supervise athletic programs for four high schools and nine middle schools.

Meeks replaces Mark Ball who retired after the conclusion of the 2015-16 school year.
