Lubbock police officers are reporting an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday (July 16).

The Lubbock Police Department Monday night released more information about the shooting incident.

According to police, officers approached the door of a home where a domestic disturbance was reported and were confronted by a man with a knife. Police say one of the officers pulled out his weapon and fired at the knife-wielding man, striking him.

Following the shooting, the officers performed life-saving measures on the man until an ambulance could arrive, police say. The man was transported to University Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The two officers involved with the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave, which Lubbock police say is standard procedure.

So far, no charges have been filed against the man who was shot. His name has yet to be released.

Initial reports say a person allegedly pulled a knife on an officer and shots were fired. The man was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The officer was not injured.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation.
