Lubbock Police reported Friday (May 25) that a person died in-custody.

Lubbock Police Chief Greg Stevens said that police responded just after 7:30 Friday morning to the 2300 block of 31st Street for a disturbance report. When police arrived, they discovered that one of the occupants, 35 year-old Albert Guerra, had a warrant for his arrest.

Police attempted to arrest Guerra, and after a struggle in the house and in the front yard, officers used a stun gun on Guerra. After using the stun gun, Guerra became unresponsive. EMS on scene provided medical care and took him to UMC where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Lubbock Police held a news conference Friday afternoon concerning the in-custody death.
