Tuesday evening, the Lubbock-Cooper ISD Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Chip Darden to football head coach for Lubbock-Cooper High School.

Darden was previously the offensive coordination for the Pirates for the past four seasons. Darden will succeed Coach Max Kattwinkel, who is now Lubbock-Cooper ISD's full-time athletic director.

"I'm so thankful for this incredible opportunity," Darden said. "We have an exceptional program and staff, and the most supportive community we could ask for. I look forward to building on to this team that has become known for performance and leadership on and off the field."

Darden will also serve as Lubbock-Cooper High School's campus athletic coordinator.

Darden and Kattwinkel led Lubbock-Cooper Pirate Football to their best season in school history in 2018, winning 13 games before losing in the Class 5A Division II Regional Final of the UIL Playoffs.
