Now On DVD!

Hello fellow movie-lovers! My name is Haley and I will be introducing and summarizing the week’s newest releases on DVD and Blu Ray. This Tuesday, January 18^th, we have Ryan Reynolds trying to escape from underground, Jason Bateman trying to inseminate Jennifer Aniston and Edward Norton trying to manipulate Robert DeNiro.

Let’s start with The Switch. I actually had the pleasure of seeing this movie in the theater, so I will give you a firsthand account. It was predictable to say the least. The whole movie, you are wondering WHEN Bateman’s character is going to tell Aniston’s about the ‘big switch’ and what her reaction is going to be once he does. It was a fun, date night movie, but nothing more.

In Buried, Ryan Reynolds finds himself buried alive with no recollection of how he got there. He has only a cell phone and a lighter and must piece together clues to find out where he is buried so that he can get out alive. According to the Web site, Rotten Tomatoes.com, the movie made $1.0 million at the box office and received good reviews from critics and moviegoers.

In Robert DeNiro’s latest blockbuster, Stone, DeNiro plays a parole officer who is being manipulated by Edward Norton’s character; a convicted arsonist. This sounds like a thrilling plot that would engage and excite its audience, right? Not so much. I haven’t seen the film personally, but according to Monohla Dargis of The New York Times, ‘[It ends] up subverting expectations by denying pleasure.’

Last, but certainly not least, is the movie Takers. The movie stars Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, Chris Brown and Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, and sounds more like a ‘how many musicians can we fit on a movie screen’ than an actual film. A basic summary is four bank robbers whose plan gets foiled by a detective. Watch if you dare, although I have never seen it, it sounds like something that’s been made 100 and one times. According to the Web site Rottentomatoes.com, the movie is hard to recommend because of its clichéd plot and two-dimensional characters.
