Wednesday night (Dec. 5th), a shooting occurred at the Sonic Drive-In near 34th and Salem, across from Coronado High School.

KAMC News reports that at least one person was shot at around 10:30 p.m. and then taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Lubbock police are still investigating what happened.

Officers arrived at the 3200 block of Salisbury Avenue where the victim was found.

Lubbock Police Department Public Information Officer Tiffany Pelt later confirmed via email that the victim is a 21-year-old male. The victim, who hasn't been identified, was taken by EMS to a local hospital. He suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound, she said.

According to Pelt, Lubbock police officers were told that the victim was driving away from the Sonic Drive-in restaurant, located at 4611 34th Street, when a man walked toward his pickup trick and fired a gun at him. While attempting to flee from the gunfire, the victim was struck one time, police said.

The suspect is still on the loose, and no information has been released about his identity. Police do believe this crime was not random.
