In ESPN's 2018 top 20 list of most dominant athletes, there was a very familiar face. Former Texas Tech Red Raider and current Kansas City Chief Patrick Mahomes secured his place among the best athletes in the world by placing 18th on the list.

The list includes Olympic medalists, World Series and Stanley Cup Champions, and more. Mahomes was the second highest rated NFL player, with Drew Brees ranking 15th -- right in front of the Triple Crown winner, Justify. It's hard to be more dominant than a horse.

You can read the entire list at ESPN.

Mahomes was given high praise from ESPN writer Dan Hajducky:

There has simply never been a quarterback as prolific, this early in his career, as Mahomes. He is the only player in NFL history with more than 3,000 passing yards and 30 TDs in his first 12 games. Among the active crop of Canton-bound QBs -- Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, even Eli Manning -- none broke even 2,000 yards or amassed 20 TDs. (Each has at least 40,000 yards and 330 passing TDs now.) Mahomes' 115.2 passer rating is 4.2 points above second-place Kurt Warner. He could become the second player to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 TDs in a season... and he's only 23.

There is controversy in every list, but to be listed as one of the most dominant athletes of 2018, regardless of age, is an outstanding accomplishment at a national level. It's not just on the field he's been dominating; Mahomes has also completely endeared himself to the city of Kansas City, and still gives back to Lubbock and his alma mater.

With every mention in a list like this and continued dominance on the field and off, Patrick Mahomes is going to be at the top of the mountain very soon.
