Former Red Raider Patrick Mahomes hasn't forgotten where he comes from.

The ex-Texas Tech quarterback and current Kansas City Chief was aware of the school's campus-wide lockdown Monday evening after reports of an active shooter hit social media. The suspected shooter had killed a Texas Tech police officer according to the earliest reports, which urged everyone on campus to shelter in place.

Mahomes gave a 'thumbs up' on Twitter after learning the lockdown was lifted. He then offered his prayers to the officer who was murdered.

The officer who was killed was identified the next day as Floyd East, Jr. of El Paso, Texas. He was working at the Texas Tech Police Department in Lubbock after transferring this May from the university's Sciences Center in El Paso.

A memorial fund for Officer East has been set up.
