Thursday, May 26 is National Red Nose Day, a day to act silly and raise or donate money to help end childhood hunger in our cities, our nation and our world.

Even locally, the number of children that go hungry from Friday when they leave school to Monday when they return is staggering.

Red Nose Day was started to help raise awareness and funds to help children to have food, medicine and educational resources all over the globe.

Donating just $1 will provide a meal for a child living in a homeless shelter. Donating $5 provides antibiotics for a child with pneumonia.

If you choose to purchase a red nose at a participating store or drug store, the proceeds also go for this cause.

Our children are our future, whether they are in Lubbock, Dallas, New York or a foreign city or town.

It's been proven that children perform better, have better focus and are able to retain educational materials if their bodies are nourished.

Clean water and nutritional meals are something that many of us take for granted.  A couple of bucks could be the difference in a child's life.
