Shoplifting Suspect Assaults Off-Duty Slaton Police Officer

An off-duty Slaton police sergeant was assaulted by a shoplifting suspect.

Lubbock Police released video of two shoplifting suspects on Thursday and said one of them assaulted an off-duty officer.

Back on May 1, the two men stole items from the Dollar General in the 1600 block 82^nd St and then headed to the Stripes at 82^nd and I-27.

While at Stripes, an off-duty police officer intervened when he noticed one of the suspects was attempting to steal from the store. A scuffle ensued, but the officer didn’t have any handcuffs on him to make the arrest and the suspect managed to escape.
