An off-duty Slaton police sergeant was assaulted by a shoplifting suspect.

Lubbock Police released video of two shoplifting suspects on Thursday and said one of them assaulted an off-duty officer.

Back on May 1, the two men stole items from the Dollar General in the 1600 block 82nd St and then headed to the Stripes at 82nd and I-27.

While at Stripes, an off-duty police officer intervened when he noticed one of the suspects was attempting to steal from the store. A scuffle ensued, but the officer didn’t have any handcuffs on him to make the arrest and the suspect managed to escape.

Police ask anyone with information on this crime or the suspects still at large to call Crime Line at 741-1000.
