Just when we thought the state of Comedy Central’s late-night lineup had settled, following Larry Wilmore’s ‘Nightly Show’ takeover from ‘The Colbert Report,’ ol’ Jon Stewart done spun us about once more. Word has come in that ‘The Daily Show’ host announced his retirement during tonight’s taping, ostensibly after Stewart’s current contract.

As the tenth anniversary of 9/11 nears, several outstanding examples of how TV dealt with the tragedy come to mind, including David Letterman’s first broadcast after the attacks and Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ But perhaps none was more powerful than the first post-9/11 ‘Daily Show With Jon Stewart‘ and Comedy Central is streaming the entire episode free on their site

On Monday night’s ‘Daily Show,’ host Jon Stewart admonished Congress and compared the constantly-changing debt ceiling deadline to a Broadway opening, saying “The only catastrophe that has moved its date this often is ‘Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark.’ He then observed that despite a steady stream of meetings about the debt crisis, Republicans and Democrats have accomplished little other than seeming
