The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released accountability ratings for both districts and campuses Wednesday morning (August 15). The ratings cover performance during the 2017-18 school year.

Lubbock ISD, on a grade of A through F, received a C from the TEA. Other district grades include: Shallowater ISD received an A; Frenship, Lubbock-Cooper, Idalou, Roosevelt, Abernathy and Slaton ISDs received a B; New Deal ISD was graded a C.

In Lubbock ISD two campuses received ratings of “Improvement Required”. They are Dunbar College Prep. and Smylie Wilson Middle School.

Earlier this week, Lubbock-Cooper ISD said the new campus 'A through F' rating system is based on a standard of measurement developed without the input of students, parents, teachers, or community members.

“This rating will not be a measurement of the hard work our students and teachers put in all year long, but an analysis of a once-per-year test score. It will fail to determine academic success, instead gauging the economic status of our students. It will not accompany any encouragement or suggestion for improvement, but will potentially label our campuses, neighborhoods, and community as lacking,” Lubbock-Cooper ISD said in a release to parents and local media.

Individual campuses receive a rating based on Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. Next year, the TEA will issue letter grades for both campuses and school districts.
