Texas Tech baseball's opening day is Friday, February 19 at 2 p.m. against Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. The team will honor former coach and Texas Tech Hall of Honor inductee Kal Segrist.

Segrist, who passed away this past summer at the age of 84, coached Texas Tech from 1968-83 and ranks second in school history with 317 wins. He was honored with three SWC Coach of the year awards.

Berl Huffman hired Segrist as an assistant in 1965, a position he held before becoming the fifth head coach in school history.

Segrist's no. 24 jersey was retired by Tech on May 1, 2010. He was survived by his wife, Becky, as well as his six children – Kris, Scott, Sunny Beth, Sandy, Kathy and Susan.
