Texas Tech is out of the NCAA Tournament after a 71-61 loss to Butler Thursday afternoon.

The Texas Tech men's basketball team surprised fans and experts alike by advancing to the 2016 NCAA Tournament - the school's first time in it since 2007. But that momentum wasn't enough to carry Tubby Smith's team past the opening round.

Devaugntah Williams led the Red Raiders' effort with 18 points, followed by Aaron Ross and Justin Gray, who both put up 10 points.

Butler trailed Texas Tech in the opening parts of the game, but that lead shrunk as the team sank several three-pointers.

Kellen Dunham, Tyler Wideman and Andrew Chrabascz's combined efforts helped put Butler over the top, scoring 23, 14 and 13 points, respectively.
