The most talked about man in sports was in the house on Tuesday night for the Texas Tech Basketball game against the Nebraska Corn Huskers.

Patrick Mahomes was a human t-shirt cannon, exploding shirts into the upper bowl. But the game wasn't about him. It was about Chris Beard and the Red Raiders moving to 5-0 on the season, beating two power 5 schools on their way to a HOF Classic Championship.

Jarrett Culver and the Red Raiders had another slow start against Nebraska, but dominated the end of the first half. They continued to dominate until the final whistle, getting to a final of 70-52.

Culver finished with 26 points and six boards. Matt Mooney also hit double digits for the second straight game with 15 points. Cash Mooney added three boards, two steals and a couple of assists for a productive night.

This win, and the win over USC, are big on the surface. Texas Tech is still undefeated, USC and Nebraska have name recognition, and Texas Tech handled both teams defensively. Nebraska looked absolutely lost against the Red Raiders reckoning that came down.

Dig just below the surface, though, and these wins get even better. Culver is improving before our eyes. Mooney looks good against power 5 teams. Tariq Owens has held his own, and the team is gelling defensively and flashing offensive firepower. The fact this is all happening in November makes you believe the team can be pretty dadgum good when conference play rolls around in January.

You can bet a top 25 ranking won't be far behind if the team continues how they're playing right now. The Red Raiders will take Thanksgiving off before getting back on the court Saturday night against Northern Colorado.

The next big matchup comes the weekend after against Penny Hardaway and the Memphis Tigers on December 1st.

The 2018-19 Texas Tech basketball season is already underway, and it's shaping up to be an absolute doozie.
