Lubbock City Councilman Victor Hernandez has announced he is running for mayor.

Hernandez made the announcement on his Facebook page Wednesday morning (Jan. 20).

He joins Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees President Dan Pope and former Lubbock City Councilman Todd Klein in the Lubbock mayoral race.

Hernandez will leave his position as city councilman due to an ordinance in Lubbock's city charter. A special election for his District 1 City Council seat will be held.

Current Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson is currently running for congressman of Congressional District 19, a position Rep. Randy Neugebauer will not seek re-election.
