Who Is the Greatest Texas Tech Athlete of All Time — Zach Thomas or Sheryl Swoopes? [Poll]

ZACH THOMAS

Zach Thomas is a Hall of Famer. 

During his career, he led the Red Raiders to three bowl games and a Southwest Conference Championship in 1994. He was named the consensus Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the year in both 1994 and 1995 and was a finalist for the Butkus Award in 1995.

“Zach Thomas is one of the great Texas Tech football players of all time,” said Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt.

If you don't trust Hocutt for some weird reason, here's what Kliff Kingsbury says about him: "He was such an incredible player not only in college, but also in the NFL. Zach is one of the greatest linebackers in the history of the game.”

Zach Thomas isn't in the Ring of Honor, but he will be.

SHERYL SWOOPES

Sheryl Swoopes is also a Hall of Famer - the first Texas Tech basketball player – men’s or women’s – to achieve this honor.

Swoopes was a consensus national player of the year during her time at Texas Tech when the Lady Raiders won the National Championship. She set 30 different records, including most points in a single game at Texas Tech, which still stands today. Her jersey and number were retired in 1994.

After Texas Tech, Swoopes went to the WNBA and was a three-time MVP and won four WNBA championships. She was also received multiple defensive player of the year awards, went to the all-star game six times and was a two-time scoring champion.

Swoopes represented the USA in three consecutive Olympic games from 1996-2004.
