A Second Red Raider Reportedly Signs As Undrafted Free Agent

Brian Klein has found a new team. The senior second baseman for Texas Tech has reportedly signed with the Washington Nationals according to Kendall Rogers of d1baseball.com.

Klein is the second Red Raider to sign as an undrafted free agent after John McMillon signed with the Kansas City Royals organization over the weekend. The Red Raiders also had two pitchers drafted in the abridged five-round MLB draft earlier this month. The Los Angeles Dodgers nabbed Clayton Beeter in the 2nd round while the Cinncinatti Reds took Bryce Bonnin in the following round.

Klein took over as the everyday second baseman in his sophomore season and never gave the job back. His junior year he was one of the best bats in a loaded lineup and a solid defender anchoring the infield. Entering his senior season Klein was a pre-season All-American and played like it for the 19 game COVID shortened season of 2020.

Playing in all four of his seasons, Klein hit for a career average of .318 and had a career fielding percentage of .990.
