News broke over the weekend that Davide Moretti would indeed be staying in Italy to play professional basketball in his home country. Olimpia Milano, his new team, confirmed the report today as they welcomed him to the team on twitter.

Shortly after the team announced the signing officially Davide Moretti himself reached out to the Red Raider Fan base to express his thoughts on moving on to the professional ranks:

Moretti took the time to thank the Texas Tech fan base for his time at Texas Tech and the support he received as a player and as a resident so far from home. He also thanked Coach Beard and his teammates for their time as well. There's no doubt in my mind that Moretti will be missed next season at Texas Tech, and it pains me that he didn't get a better send-off, but Moretti is moving into a great situation for himself and nobody can blame him.

You can read Moretti's entire statement below:

Red Raider nation, there are so many things I would like to say...
First off I want to say that it was a pleasure to play in front of the best crowd in the nation for the last three years. You guys pushed me to be a better player, a great role model and most importantly you gave me a reason to leave it all out on the floor, every single game.
I have never been more committed to a program than I was to Texas Tech, it was an honor to represent one of the elite programs in college basketball on and off the court.
I have memories that will last a lifetime and teammates that I consider brothers.
I am sure this past year would have been another one to remember if only we could have played till the end.
It has been the toughest decision of my life, trust me... but I thought this could be a great opportunity for me to pursue my dream.
I hope you all will understand.
Lastly, I wanted to thank Coach Beard and all the great coaches that I had the pleasure to be coached by, you changed my life forever, you pushed me to be the best version of myself and I wouldn’t be the player and the person I am today without you all.
You all are my second family and I truly mean it.
I will always be part of that Elite8 team, member of that BigXII champion team and member of the first team to ever reach the Final Four, but most importantly
I will always be a Red Raider 👆🏼🔴⚫️
Thank you from the bottom of my heart
