The Lubbock Police Department confirmed on Friday, June 19th that four of its employees have tested positive for COVID-19, the novel coronavirus.

The department said that two of the four who tested positive work on patrol, and the other two work in investigations and administration.

It's currently unknown if those on patrol were exposed through work or personal activities.

The Lubbock Police Department building has been cleaned thoroughly, and employees are being screened when reporting to work to prevent further exposures.

Between Monday, June 15th and Friday, June 19th, 352 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Lubbock. The recent outbreak marks the largest increase in new cases since the virus' appearance in the county on March 17th.

Additionally, this month Texas Tech University confirmed positive coronavirus cases in their football, men's basketball, men's track and field and Lady Raiders basketball programs. However, the school has not revealed the number of student-athletes and/or employees that tested positive for COVID-19.
