Would you like to move to a cooler city but stay in the great State of Texas? I have some suggestions for you.

Texas, as a rule, is not cool. We have some brutal heat. Even in the Panhandle, temperatures spike over 100 degrees regularly during the summer months. The flip side is that we generally don’t get too cold, so the area definitely leans toward the warm side.

The general answer to “the coolest city in Texas” is “the Panhandle.” That’s an absolutely crazy thought to those of us who live here. Still, believe it or not, Amarillo and Lubbock are considered some of the cooler areas.

Why Pampa Just Might Be the Coolest Spot in Texas

The real winner, though, is Pampa, Texas. Pampa has the lowest average maximum temperature at 70 degrees. This is, of course, among towns large enough to have measurable data.

As for the city with the lowest average temperature overall, we have to bounce back to Amarillo. Some of those cold and freezing days in the Yellow City pull the averages down enough to give the illusion of milder weather. We all know things get very rowdy over there, but we’re dealing in averages here.

I’m sure the smaller towns that border Texas and Oklahoma near the Panhandle probably measure a little lower, but there just isn't enough recorded data to document their highs and lows.

Again, Texas is not a very "cool" state overall, but landing in the panhandle is your best bet for a more moderate heat.
