Dust devils are certainly nothing new here, but I spotted the biggest one I've ever seen Wednesday afternoon.

Dust Devils

Dust devils are actually really common. I'm sure there was a time in your life when you were near a small one. Some of you also may have been dummies like me and just jumped in one to play around. No, you weren't going to get sucked up into the sky, but you were getting sandblasted and it's not really great on your lungs. A lot of dust devils go completely unnoticed al together.

Seeing The Devil

I have these oddly tinted sunglasses that for some reason make seeing smoke and dust much easier. There have been any number of times I've seen something and when I raised my glasses it's almost not visible to the naked eye. In case you're wondering, this is my way of setting you up for the picture/video you're about to see. It's very hard for a camera, especially a jicky smart phone to capture.

The Phenom!

I think the thing that made this particular dust devil a little mind blowing is that I could see it cloud to ground. Usually, at least in my experience, they are only visible near the ground where they are picking up the most dust. This Texas Tall Boy of a dust devil was spotted about 3:45 on Tuesday afternoon. It was located not far from the intersection of North I-27 and Loop 289. You'll have to trust me a bit on this one, but it was a stunner!
