When Can I Buy Fireworks In Lubbock County?
You don’t have to tell me the 4th of July is a big deal in Lubbock—I see and hear it every year.
As a fireworks lover, I find the rules around here a bit nonsensical—but necessary. Fireworks are only available during certain windows, and honestly, that's a good thing. Restraint isn't exactly Lubbock’s strong suit.
Fireworks are technically banned within city limits. That doesn’t mean folks follow the rule. In fact, Lubbock gets so chaotic with fireworks that it feels like officials have just thrown up their hands and accepted it.
People from Lubbock scoff at the notion that fireworks are "not allowed" in the city.
My neighborhood turns into a full-blown war zone by July 3rd. We hear the first pops practically the minute stands are legally allowed to sell. And no, I’m not grumpy about fireworks—I just wish they stayed confined to a short window on the 4th itself.
This year, you can start buying fireworks on June 24th. A quick look at a few popular stand websites confirms they'll open the moment it’s legal. Most plan to stay open until the deadline: midnight on July 4th.

If you're reading this on Tuesday, June 3rd, then fireworks stands are just three weeks away from opening. It’ll be interesting to see if tariffs impact prices this year—especially since 96% of all fireworks come from China. I don't think prices will stop most from purchasing fireworks, but we may see either higher prices or an end to some of those "buy one, get one" type deals.
