I'm not saying tossing tortillas at Tech should go, but what if...?

Our Tradition

Just in case someone who doesn't know what this is all about stumbles across this article, Texas Tech has a tradition of throwing tortillas at football games. This tossing also happens and a few other events as well. It's just one of those weird things that happens. The origins are sketchy, but some say people were sailing drink lids, and once those were taken away, some people started winging tortillas and it caught on. It can be a quite a site to see when all the tortillas appear seemingly out of nowhere (but mostly out of peoples pants...yuk!).

The Hershey Tradition

Now comes the story of the Hershey Bears hockey team. You might have heard of thier annual Teddy Bear Toss. This year fans showed up and tossed 102,343 teddy bears on the ice. Those teddy bears will now be donated to over 35 different charities. That is a lot of good work and good vibes being done in a really short time.

The Idea

So I guess you already know where I'm going with this. The Hershey Bears are just a minor league hockey team, I'm sure Texas Tech football, basketball, or even baseball tops them in attendance. Imagine if we put some of those strong tortilla-tossing arms to use just for just one game?  We wouldn't even have to rely on folks bringing a stuffed animal or anything, we could just actually make tortillas available for purchase for one game with the proceeds going to charity. Heck, make rubber "tortillas" that can even be reused. It's all really about the visual anyways.

I'd be very interested to see if this works. Tortilla tossing is supposed to be about school spirit, so why not make it a positive thing for the community as well?
