Here’s The Real Unsung Hero Of The Lubbock Food Scene

You might not realize it, but Lubbock has a pretty good food scene.

Now, some of you "foodies" (and if you call yourself a "foodie" you can just stop reading now) might disagree with me over the tastes and flavors of Lubbock, but leave for a bit and you'll find out.

If you leave West Texas you'll miss Rosa's and Taco Villa. It sucks to not be close to a

Whataburger. Believe it or not, there are places that don't know how to make a chicken-fried steak or even decent chicken for that matter. In fact, there are places that are comparable to actual hell on earth, because they don't know how to make white gravy.

You'll also miss Pedro's tamales, the Thai restaurants that have thrived here, Pinkie's barbeque sandwiches (nothing hits better with a beer), and a huge plate of morning goodness at the Breakfast House.

Now, for the most part, I've mentioned restaurants, but I'm really about the flavors and items and that brings me to one of the best, and that's the huge bags of corn chips you get at United for five bucks.

Yup, that's what I'm here to write about. There's something about these chips that's just homemade and good. If you haven't picked through a bag looking for the ones with extra stuff on them, then you really haven't lived. They are crispy, savory, and always welcome. I actually have a friend who sends bags of these to Austin because they can't get them there.

Yes, there are other people who make great chips. In fact, I use another brand for making nachos, but these are the fellers that are perfect for dips, salsa, and all by themselves.  They feed a lot of snackers for next to nothing and they are as dependable as anything gets.  I salute you United Big Bag Of Corn Chips!
