61-year-old Texas attorney Jerry Hernandez and his 52-year-old wife Sonia Hernandez were found deceased in their $1.6 million luxury Shavano Park mansion just outside of downtown San Antonio on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, moments after authorities responded to calls about gunshots from nearby residents.

Their death is believed to be a murder-suicide. Sonia shot and killed Jerry and then took her own life. The couple leaves behind a college-age daughter.

Hernandez was named one of the top personal injury lawyers by SA Scene magazine in 2017 and has been practicing law since 1988. Sonia was the owner of a beauty boutique.

Police have yet to release other details surrounding their death, but they have stated they are no longer looking for anyone else involved in the tragic incident.

In 2022, well over 2000 people in Texas fell victim to murder-suicide. According to the CDC, Texas and California account for the highest rates of murder-suicide in the United States. For more statistics on murder-suicide rates in the U.S., click here for a full report.
